Two scholarship programs | Youth First leadership grants | Our Locations




First Plan scholarship deadlines now April 1.

Students planning careers in health care fields are encouraged to apply for scholarships available through First Plan of Minnesota. Two separate scholarships are offered.

Founders Fund
First Plan Founders Fund scholarships are presented each spring to two or three high school seniors or post-secondary students who are members of First Plan. The scholarships honor the men and women who founded First Plan in 1944. Founders Fund scholarships are based on academics, community or school involvement, character, leadership and career goals. Applications are due April 1and are available at First Plan’s Service Center in Duluth and at most area high schools.

Dr. Jerry Church Community Health Sustainers’ Award
This special memorial scholarship honors medical professionals who practiced at the former Community Health Center clinic in Two Harbors. The Sustainers’ Award provides funds to help pay for the medical training of students planning to serve as family practice physicians, nurse practitioners or registered nurses in rural communities. Recipients must be accepted into the nursing program at The College of St. Scholastica or into the UMD School of Medicine. Applications are due April 1and are available at First Plan’s Service Center in Duluth.

Youth First leadership grants available to high schools

High schools in the First Plan of Minnesota service area are eligible to apply for First Plan Youth First leadership grants. The grants, of up to $500 annually, are available to support school-affiliated programs that teach leadership skills or provide for positive youth development. Teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, advisors and principals are invited to apply on behalf of their students or programs.
