Q: Where can I receive care?

A: First Plan contracts with nearly every primary and specialty care clinic in the region. You choose the clinic where you’d like to receive your care. First Plan's commercial health plans are available to employers in Carlton, Itasca, Lake, northern Pine, and St. Louis counties in Minnesota. First Plan Blue is available to Minnesotans who live in Carlton, Cook, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis counties. Seniors First is a Medicare supplement available to persons in Carlton, Itasca, Lake, Northern Pine and St. Louis counties.

Q: Can I change my primary care clinic?

A: If you have coverage through your employer, you may make changes during open enrollment. Otherwise, you may submit a change request in writing to our Member Services Center in Duluth. Requests must be received in writing before the 15th of each month to be effective the first of the following month.

Q: Can I see specialists?

A: You, your primary care physician and your specialists will work as a team in your best interest. Most clinics in our network do not require referrals to see specialists in our network. Call Customer Service if you have any questions.

Q: Do I need a referral from my doctor to see a chiropractor?

A: You never need a referral for chiropractic, optical, mental health or ob-gyn care, as long as the health professional you choose is in the First Plan network.

Q: How can I check the status of my claim?

A: The Member Services Center in Duluth is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday for your inquiries regarding the payment of claims or clarification of benefits.

Q: Am I still eligible for First Plan coverage after join Medicare?

A: First Plan offers a Medicare supplement, called Seniors First, for people who live in Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, northern Pine and St. Louis counties in Minnesota.

Q: Does First Plan cover prescriptions?

A: First Plan will cover the cost of prescription medications you need subject to a copayment as defined in your contract. First Plan uses the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota drug formulary. Physicians and pharmacists developed the formulary, which contains brand name and generic drugs. Only drugs listed in the formulary are covered.
