History

First Plan of Minnesota's first health partnership was formed
in 1944, when the organization was established in Two Harbors
to fulfill the community's need for local health care. As
a non-profit association, focus was centered on people, not
on profits. The founders formed a partnership with health
professionals who staffed the hospital and a new clinic, Community
Health Center, and with the first members, who paid a monthly
fee for all health services. This innovative approach became
the first health maintenance organization in Minnesota and
the foundation for a health plan that values its members.
First Plan of Minnesota has grown over the past half-century
into a regional leader in providing health care coverage.
It currently contracts with more than 200 primary care providers
at clinics in Northeastern Minnesota.
